olympic sports evaluated in terms of motivational usefulness to me while at the gym

tier 1: amazingly motivational, made me work out super hard

  • women’s field hockey - when they talk about running for 70 minutes and all the nutritional stuff they did to get prepared, here i am just doing the elliptical like a slacker, so i better super do the elliptical
  • women’s weightlifting - obv

tier 2: not motivational, because i just don’t care and/or can’t figure out what’s going on

  • beach volleyball
  • table tennis

tier 3: counterproductive, because i am paying too much attention and/or so invested in the outcome i am trying to influence the motion of the athletes by moving my own body and thus fall off whatever i’m doing (note: i have this problem with NCAA basketball, too)

  • gymnastics
  • diving
